Profile of skills and competences |
Composition of the qualification The common module of the qualification is basic boat-building skills. One of the following competence areas must also be taken: glass-fibre reinforced plastic boats, wooden boats, metal boats 1 + 2. One of the following eight optional modules must also be taken: advanced composite structures; riggings, rigs and sails; lasts and moulds; wooden composite structures; repair and upkeep of wooden boats; repair and upkeep of glass-fibre reinforced plastic boats; repair and upkeep of metal boats; upholstery. In addition, it is also possible to take the entrepreneurship module. Vocational skills and competences required for completion of the qualification Those who have completed the qualification shall: - be familiar with the most common processes and methods used in the reinforced plastics industry - be familiar with the raw materials of the reinforced plastics industry and their properties - be familiar with wood, its functional properties and chemical structure - be able to select wood of the correct quality according to each application - be able to select panel materials, processed products and semi-finished products and adhesives and gluing methods suitable for boat-building - know how to use the tools and machinery employed in reinforced plastic work and woodworking correctly and safely - be familiar with the most common metallic materials and their alloys - be capable of carrying out routine metal working tasks - be familiar with the most common boat types and models and their applications - be able to read technical drawings and define and dimension the shapes of boat parts - act in an economical, service-oriented and co-operative manner in their work and take occupational health and safety and other safety regulations into account - command the skills and knowledge of their chosen modules |

Those who have completed the qualification may work in assignments related to the manufacturing, servicing and repair of boats in boat-building shops and repair shops. |

Officially recognised ways of obtaining the certificate |
The qualification is obtained by demonstrating vocational skills in competence tests. National qualification requirements have been defined in core curricula drawn up by the National Board of Education. Education and training leading to the qualification is arranged when necessary. This involves drawing up an individual study plan which includes a learning plan and a competence test plan. |
Entry requirements Qualifications may be completed irrespective of how the vocational skills and competences have been obtained. Additional information The organisation and supervision of competence tests is the responsibility of Qualification Committees.
